DO88 is delighted to introduce the Intake System for the BMW M240i and M340i, specifically engineered for elevated power levels.
In the development of a new intake system for turbocharged engines, filtration, airflow, and temperature control are paramount considerations.
Our do88 intake system has been meticulously designed to supply the turbo with effective filtration, enhanced airflow, and cooler inlet temperatures. A particular challenge faced during the design of this B58 Gen 2 Intake system is its proximity to the exhaust manifold, which significantly increases the temperature in that area of the engine bay.
High air intake temperatures detrimentally affect engine performance, as the turbo must then compress hotter, less dense air. This underscores the necessity of a fully sealed intake system to ensure that Inlet Air Temperatures (IATs) remain minimal. However, a completely sealed system can restrict airflow due to having only a single, standard air feed at the bottom of the air filter box. Through our development process, we identified the essential addition of a secondary air feed to overcome this limitation. Moreover, our sealed airbox is equipped with a heat shield to significantly reduce radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To ensure ample air volume around the filter, we engineered a large 7” airbox that additionally accommodates strut braces.
In replacement of the standard intake hose, we have crafted a smoother, larger carbon tube. It begins with a 105mm (4.1 inches) diameter and gradually tapers to precisely fit the turbo inlet. Attached to this intake tube is our sizable, bespoke air filter, featuring densely woven cotton gauze for exceptional filtration. Naturally, the filter is washable and reusable, ensuring peak performance and extended lifespan.
The system is available in various configurations. It is compatible with the Original Equipment (OE) turbo inlet, as well as with do88’s CNC machined Turbo inlets. Our turbo inlets come in two models, suitable for either the OE or the Pure 800 hybrid turbo, both offering a significant 89mm (3.5″) hose connection to the inlet pipe and a meticulously calculated, flow-optimised radius to significantly enhance airflow. The inclusion of the do88 Turbo inlet effectively eliminates any pre-turbo bottlenecks, preventing surge even at high power outputs.
Testing on our SuperFlow SF1020 flow bench unequivocally demonstrates the significant impact of this optional Turbo inlet. The intake system alone facilitates a remarkable 15% increase in airflow. When combined with the do88 Turbo inlet (for OE Turbo), the total increase in airflow reaches an astounding 23%! We highly recommend this combination for optimal performance.
The original air filter box and turbo inlet hose incorporate features designed to reduce noise from the turbo and air induction. In particular, the standard intake hose includes two sound silencers to maintain quiet operation of the turbo. In contrast, our intake system dispenses with these noise-reduction elements, enabling a more pronounced turbo spool and induction sound.
The kit is offered in three variants, dependent on the turbo application:
Without the do88 turbo inlet, connecting directly to the OE plastic turbo inlet. With the CNC-machined do88 Turbo inlet, specifically designed for the OE turbo. With the CNC-machined do88 Turbo inlet, tailored for the Pure 800 turbocharger. Note: The do88 Turbo inlet lacks any crankcase heating element, necessitating the disconnection of the car’s cable connector. We advise a custom tune to prevent the Check Engine Light (CEL).

You can for example use BMC Filter oil with part number “WAFLU250”.
